Julian Tenembaum is an Argentine Composer, Pianist and Producer.
He had an early introduction to music, learning the piano throughout his childhood. It was through this that Julian began to immerse himself in the styles of classical pianists from previous generations as well as the music of contemporary composers, before forging his own musical path through composition. He has made the original music for the series Historias Migrantes (2019) directed by Mariano Pozzi, winning the best original music in 2020 at the British web Awards. During 2020 he made the original music for the performance piece UNDER that had the support of the National Theater Institute. Collective work (Amsterdam- Buenos Aires) under the creation and direction of Melisa Zulberti and Lucia Fernandez Santoro. In the course of 2021, he created the original music for the performance installation The Continuity of the Bodies, directed by Melisa Zulberti, exhibited at the San Martín Cultural Center, selected for the 2022 Biennial of Young Art, scenic creators. He is currently releasing his first solo album called “Fragmentos” with Akira Kosemura’s Japanese label “Schole Records” and Warner Chappell Argentina
Fragmentos is his debut solo album and for Julian it is his first real personal statement as an artist. The compositions on fragmentos were born from the fascination for the piano as an instrument and also as a way of feeling music, landscapes and sonorities. Recreates moments and parts of life, makes us immerse in the deepest and be able to come to light. Recorded in the beautiful MCL recording studio with a grand piano and at a friend’s house with a beautiful room to record on his piano.
This interdisciplinary proposal touches upon concepts such as weight, fragility, suspension, and duplication. Through investigating physical virtuosity, the performer navigates notions of living sculptures. By updating it’s imaginary, it shuffles the various possibilities of adding new meanings to the final image composition. This installation project playfully addresses the multiplicity of forms and bodies, bringing a sense of infinity to the scene, in analogy with the infinity of time. La continuidad de los cuerpos (The continuity of bodies) is a project that questions the new forms of sensorial, spatial, and corporal community. Bodies like particles investigating the possibility of the constant. Starting from the individual power, it searches to magnetize other bodies affected by the resonance and forming a shared sensitivity in constant expansion and compression. The work proposes bodies as magnetic territories, offering a geography in constant construction.
La continuidad de los cuerpos (The continuity of bodies) is a creation around the movement medium, sourced in a previous research process on the chemical element mercury and its multiple compositional and transformation possibilities. From this process, arose the thought of bodies as magnetic territories. Starting from the premise that a body is a latent energy that reverses reality, creates itself, vanishes, builds, and de-builds itself, its dimensions can fluctuate, its surface can evoke, move or challenge perception. The body is a social fabric that weaves territories in its interaction with others. It establishes links, limits, analogies, empathies, and segmentations. It reclaims and resists itself.Several bodies in unison embody strangeness or blend into a performative whole. They are a fleeting trail that only attentive gazes perceive as a sign.
“Under” is presented as a succession of poetically sensitive images that unify elements abstracted from everyday life, a divided body and a sound score. A reflection of objective reality, of automatic thoughts and unconscious, involuntary and inflexible dialogues of our brain, which are transmitted to a dreamlike space and manifest in actions of a fragmented corporeity. It is a visual experience that involves a viewer capable of decoding the subjective universe, entering a game that turns him into a philosophical interpreter of chaos.
